About "The Value of Relationships"
The Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers and the Council on
Foundations announce the publication of the new report, "The Value of
Relationships between State Charity Regulators and Philanthropy." Posted by request from the authors. Posting does not imply endorsement by NASCO or any of its members.
This publication seeks to help enhance the accountability and effectiveness of foundations and their oversight by state charity regulators by highlighting the value of ongoing, productive relationships between regulators and the philanthropic sector, and demonstrating how such relationships can be successfully achieved.
It includes an overview of state regulation of charities and foundations; a snapshot of the regulatory environment in 16 states; case studies of the various types of collaborative relationships in four states; and recommendations on how to develop such relationships.
The 31 regional associations across the country, who together represent more than 4,000 grantmakers, are in the process of reaching out to their regulators to share copies of this report and to discuss ways to work together to strengthen the nonprofit sector in their states.
